“This journey began at Friends Cafe, on the first floor near the entrance to the library. “What a lovely and quaint spot,” they all thought. Frantically, they scavenged throughout the library to find the answers, as quickly as they could. They were determined to win. The hunt included several trips up and down the elevator, up again, down again, accidentally back up again, and finally, they arrived at the stairs. With their quick wits, they approached user services, where they were greeted by an extremely knowledgeable library connoisseur. With her guidance, Early Wintervention was able to complete all tasks in a timely fashion. With selfies in hand, they began the long trek back to Friends Cafe, to finally eat lunch…but, wait! They still had to find they outdoor book return. With sweat droplets on their faces, they wiped their brows and forged on, their backpacks growing heavy, they approached the book return at the buildings’ rear. Satisfied with their conquest, it was time for lunch, this time not as strangers, but as comrades.” – El Fin
Lara Handler, liaison librarian to the School of Medicine, shares reactions to the HSL’s exam prep resources.
“I gave a talk to the third year medical students and showed them our Exam Prep LibGuide and they went nuts. They didn’t know we had all the resources we do- ExamMaster, FirstAid- and they were so happy. They are thrilled when they can save money by not buying study guides themselves. I’m contacting the second year course directors so I can let the students know about these resources even earlier next year.”
“I got to say hello to Othello as he was approaching the library for his 1 p.m. hour. It is wonderful that HSL has pet therapy during exam week. He helped improve the attitude of this university staff person during exam week too!”
“I have worked for UNC-ITS for the last 26 years. My latest position is in the networking shop which takes me to every location on campus. In an effort to be more fit I usually take the stairs. There is no place better to climb or descend than HSL. I enjoy looking at the different postings in the stairwells and some even make me pause to think…Thank you for making a little extra effort enjoyable!”
Humorous memes encourage patrons to use the stairs at the Health Sciences Library at UNC (HSL).
